We Made a Southeast Texas Wildlife Coloring Book — And It’s on Amazon

If your kids have ever asked what that big pink bird is standing at the water’s edge, or wanted to know if that really was an alligator gar they spotted from the bank — this one’s for them.

We just published a Southeast Texas wildlife coloring book featuring 35 real animals from the Gulf Coast, Piney Woods, and Big Thicket. It’s called Wild Southeast Texas: A Wildlife Coloring Book and it’s available right now on Amazon.

Why we made it

I’ve been camping in Southeast Texas my whole life. The Big Thicket, Village Creek, Sam Rayburn, Bolivar Peninsula — these places are home. And the wildlife here is genuinely remarkable. One of the most biologically diverse regions in North America, and most people drive right through it without stopping.

I kept looking for a coloring book that actually represented what kids in our area see on camping trips and hiking trails. Whooping cranes. Roseate spoonbills. Alligator gar. Nutria rats. Alligator snapping turtles. These animals live right here in our backyard — but you’ll never find them in a generic wildlife coloring book.

So we made one.

What’s inside

35 real animals from Southeast Texas and the Gulf Coast — every single one actually lives in this region. Bold, thick outlines sized perfectly for young hands. Single-sided pages so markers and colored pencils won’t bleed through. And every illustration is labeled with the animal’s name, so coloring turns into a nature lesson.

Here’s a look at a few of the pages:

Who it’s for

The book is designed for kids ages 4–10. The bold outlines and large illustrations are easy for little hands with crayons, and detailed enough to keep older kids engaged with colored pencils or markers.

It’s perfect for:

  • Camping trips — pack it in the gear bag for quiet time at the campsite
  • Road trips through Southeast Texas and the Gulf Coast
  • School breaks and rainy days
  • Any kid who loves animals, nature, and the outdoors
  • A gift for Texas kids who grow up exploring these backroads, creeks, and beaches

Where to get it

A note from us

This book is a labor of love for a region that doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the outdoor world. If your kids grow up knowing what a roseate spoonbill looks like, or can spot an alligator gar from the bank of a creek, that’s a connection to this place that lasts a lifetime.

That’s what SETX Camping is about — helping people fall in love with Southeast Texas the way those of us who grew up here already have.

If you grab a copy, we’d love to see what your kids color. Tag us on Facebook at facebook.com/SetxCamping or leave a review on Amazon — it genuinely helps more people find the book.

See you out there.
